Modern Tropical
Koh Samui, Thailand
Modern Tropical is a completed private residence on Koh Samui, designed around a single clear ambition: a home that feels genuinely tropical without borrowing from any particular regional aesthetic. Clean lines, deep overhangs, and a strong inside-outside relationship define the building from every angle.
The project demonstrates what happens when architecture, interior design, and construction are handled as a single discipline — details that read as effortless because they were resolved at the drawing stage, not negotiated on site.
The building form responds directly to Samui's climate — deep roof overhangs manage sun and rain, cross-ventilation is built into the plan, and the pool terrace is positioned to catch the prevailing breeze. The result is a house that stays comfortable without relying on air conditioning to do all the work.
Interiors stay deliberately restrained — a limited palette of natural stone, warm wood, and white plaster that lets the light and the garden do the work. Furniture and lighting were selected in parallel with the architecture, so every piece fits the space it was made for rather than accommodating it.
Modern Tropical was delivered as a complete furnished residence — architecture, interiors and landscaping handed over as one body of work, with the same team accountable for every decision from the first sketch to the final styling.
