Koh Samui, Thailand
This villa was built to feel less like a private house and more like a small resort — sala-style pavilions, a courtyard pool, and craftsmanship drawn directly from traditional Thai residential architecture rather than a generic "tropical" aesthetic.
It remains one of our clearest demonstrations that heritage detailing and high-end livability are not in tension — they simply need a team that can execute both at once.
Steep multi-tier roofs in dark timber shelter open-sided pavilions that step around a central courtyard and pool. Circulation is almost entirely covered but never fully enclosed, so the boundary between inside and outside disappears throughout the day.
Reclaimed teak doors, stone water features and hand-set masonry were sourced and detailed to traditional standards, then paired with a fully modern kitchen and bathrooms — the craftsmanship is authentic, the comfort is not compromised for it.
Timber roof structures of this complexity demand carpentry skill that is increasingly rare on the island — our construction team worked directly with traditional roof carpenters to deliver the pitch and joinery the design called for, without shortcuts in the structure above.
Completed and operating as a private residence. By night, the courtyard pool and pavilions are lit to feel closer to a boutique resort than a private home — exactly as intended.
